Shina.su Tyre Center, a sales partner of KAMA TYRES, the tyre manufacturing business of TATNEFT Group, organized a test drive of Viatti Brina Nordico winter studded tyres of 205/55R16 size. A set of tyres was installed on a C-class car - KIA Ceed of 2014 year of manufacture. The experts assessed its ice driving as well as handling in various conditions.
Testing features
Experts tested the tyres and the car at air temperatures from +2 to -15°C, on dry and wet asphalt, icy asphalt, and moderately snowy dirt roads. The driving was reasonably aggressive. Places chosen for tests were: excellent metropolitan roads, regional urban roads of different condition, a highway, suburban unpaved roads. The tyres were mounted by specialists of Shina.su. The wheels were balanced with the minimum amount of weights (35-50 grams per wheel). The tyre mounting of wheels got an "excellent" as well as the balancing – a “good” score. According to the measurements, the tread depth was 8 mm. Test results During the ice test to check the longitudinal grip, the experts measured the acceleration time from 5 km/h to 60 km/h and the braking distance when emergency braking on an icy asphalt road. According to the test results, the acceleration time was 6.2 seconds, and the braking distance - 15 meters. The experts’ overall score was "good". The experts of Shina.su also tested the handling of Viatti Brina Nordico tyres. When driving on an icy road, the model demonstrated a fairly accurate and confident reaction without sudden unexpected sliding.
Best of all, the tyres were in driving and braking on a road with sludge (slushy mess). When extreme maneuvering, the pilot noted a fairly predictable reaction of the tyres without side skidding. “Our findings and overall impressions are: this tyre can be recommended with full confidence for not very aggressive driving in urban conditions or on not heavy snow terrain. • Safe driving in both a straight line or sharp turns at high speed of Viatti Brina Nordico winter tyres is combined with shock absorption when moving on road bumps, asphalt joints and other obstacles. This is facilitated by the VSS technology (variable sidewall stiffness - variable distribution of sidewall stiffness), thanks to which the tyre adapts to the road surface and changes in speed.
• A high level of slush planning resistance (sliding on slush) is achieved due to the feather edge blocks in the shoulder area of the tread, which help the tyre to cut slush and remove it from the tyre-to-road contact patch efficiently.
• Asymmetric tread pattern and wide placed studs provide the best grip on the road, wear resistance and reduce tyre noise
• The highly-elastic tread with sipes densely spaced along its width improves the tyre grip on both ice and wet roads.
• A specially designed arrangement of tread blocks, with a longitudinal shift with respect to one another provides additional noise protection when driving.
